Lawmakers warn CE over landfill plans

Pro-establishment legislators have warned the chief executive against rushing through controversial plans to expand local landfills.Councillors said C.Y. Leung sought their support for the expansion at a dinner gathering, but New People’s Party lawmaker Regina Ip said forcing the plan through would be “political suicide.”

Her colleague Michael Tien said the government needs to sweeten the deal by offering incentives such as electricity subsidies.
